Then they emerged as an \u201covernight\u201d success.<\/p>\n<p>These artists found a way to <strong>push through their \u201cvalley of disappointment,\u201d<\/strong> that phase of any new endeavor where small progress is being made, but is difficult to perceive.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to building a music career, sometimes that valley can last for months or even years.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_make_better_habits_automatic\"><\/span>How to make better habits automatic<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><em>\u201cIt\u2019s the journey, not the destination, man!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Whenever I talk to independent artists who are making big things happen, it\u2019s because<strong> they\u2019ve dedicated themselves to the process \u2014 not specific outcomes.<\/strong> The activities that help them make progress in their journey have become almost automatic.<\/p>\n<p>This all made a lot more sense to me earlier this year when I read <a href=\"https:\/\/jamesclear.com\/atomic-habits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Atomic Habits<\/em><\/a> by James Clear.
