2018, Google announced it would identify all\u00a0sites that had not migrated to HTTPS as \u201cnot secure\u201d in the Chrome browser.<\/p>\n<p>Google had already been pushing webmasters to make the change to non-secure websites for years \u2013 including hinting at a small\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/googles-https-algorithm-two-years-later-still-looks-url-give-ranking-boost-261156\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ranking boost<\/a>\u00a0to further incentivize the shift.<\/p>\n<p>According to Google, in 2018:<\/p>\n<p>Over 68% of Chrome traffic on both Android and Windows was protected<\/p>\n<p>Over 78% of Chrome traffic on both Chrome OS and
