Especially after I saw our 2010 story, <a href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/happy-birthday-yahoo-15-years-old-today-37106\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Happy Birthday, Yahoo: 15 Years Old Today<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>But why was that the only headline from March 1 on Search Engine Land about it being Yahoo\u2019s birthday? Perhaps it was because our article discussed a Yahoo blog post (<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20100305092040\/http:\/\/ycorpblog.com\/2010\/03\/01\/y15birthday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Happy 15th Birthday Yahoo! from Jerry and David!<\/a>), which was posted on March 1 and contained the words \u201cas we celebrate 15 years today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Digging deeper into our archives, things continued to be confusing:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/yahoo-celebrates-its-13th-birthday-will-there-be-a-14th-13514\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yahoo Celebrates Its 13th Birthday; Will There Be A 14th?<\/a> \u2013 published March 5, 2008 (references a photo shared by Yahoo via Flicker on March 4, which was completely unhelpful.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/yahoo-celebrates-its-14th-birthday-16759\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yahoo Celebrates Its 14th Birthday<\/a> \u2013 published <strong>March 2<\/strong>, 2009. (\u201cYahoo is\u00a0celebrating\u00a0its 14th birthday today\u2026\u201d)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/yahoo-turns-16-years-old-66509\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yahoo Turns 16 Years Old<\/a> \u2013 published March 2, 2011 (\u201cOn <strong>March 1st<\/strong>, Yahoo turned 16 years old.\u201d And that\u2019s because Yahoo marked its \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110305033718\/https:\/\/ycorpblog.com\/2011\/03\/01\/sweet16\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sweet 16<\/a>\u201d on March 1, 2011.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/yahoo-celebrates-20th-birthday-setting-new-world-record-yodeling-215887\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yahoo Celebrates Its 20th Birthday By Setting New World Record For Yodeling<\/a>, published March 3, 2015 (\u201cYahoo turned 20 yesterday\u2026\u201d i.e., <strong>March 2<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>Well, on March 2, 2005, Yahoo celebrated its 10th birthday by giving away a free scoop of Baskin-Robbins ice cream. And on March 2, 2020, Yahoo wished itself a happy birthday on social media and shared <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/25-years-yahoo-milestones-192933251.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">25 years of milestones<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I even went to Yahoo search for the first time in a <strong>very<\/strong> long time to find out what Yahoo search (powered by Microsoft Bing) would tell me. No surprise, Wikipedia provided further consensus about March 2:<\/p>\n<p>So Yahoo\u2019s \u201cofficial\u201d birthday seems to be March 2, not March 1. Although it could easily be argued that neither is actually the \u201creal\u201d birthday of Yahoo. <\/p>\n<p>After all, the company was founded in 1994. Jerry and David\u2019s Guide to the World Wide Web was renamed as Yahoo in April 1994.
