href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/google-provides-new-options-for-paginated-content-92906\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">introduced in 2011<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Worse than that, Google hadn\u2019t been using it for indexing for a \u201cnumber of years,\u201d according to Google\u2019s John Mueller. <\/p>\n<p>All the while, Google continued to recommend using it, so SEOs, publishers and developers invested resources into implementing and maintaining the markup \u2013 all for no benefit.<\/p>\n<p><a
