Just like when Google was testing an expandable locations section that is in a collapsible menu in the Google Search results, now Google is testing an “in-store nearby” section that is expandable within a collapsible menu.

We knew this was coming when we spotted a massive design for the Google News home page and now it is officially here. Google has launched a revamped design this morning where the search company says they “made it easier for you to catch up on the most important news by bringing Top stories, Local news and personalized picks for you to the top of the page.”

Google Ads has a ton of reporting tools in the Ads console but some don’t fully work as expected. For example, the date comparison in the Performance Max Product Listing tab but doesn’t actually allow us to compare the data. It does give you a way to compare date ranges but without reporting on any of it.

Last week, Google tweeted about its interactive infographic on how Google Search has changed since it launched in 1998. For me, this infographic triggered a lot of SEO memories.

Google’s John Mueller has been doing Google SEO office hours for what feels like a decade or so. It is when John Mueller would answer questions live from SEOs and then that would be published on YouTube for all to watch later. We would cover a lot of those recordings here and even ask some questions live.

I know we had a long Holiday weekend with both Father’s Day and Juneteenth but there were some tremors of note related to a possible Google search ranking algorithm update over the weekend. It might be just normal holiday weekend chatter but some of the tools are also showing volatility that match the chatter.

Google is again testing bolding the domain name or portion of the domain name in the search results again. Google has tested this numerous times over the years, I believe the last time we covered it was 2018 but Google has tested it before and after that.

Google’s John Mueller stated somewhat of an obvious statement, saying basically that building a good website is often good for SEO. He said on Twitter “A lot of good accessibility best practices are also good SEO best practices, and just generally, making a site better for users often results in indirect, overall positive effects too.”

Google has updated the local service ads requirements to require you to have five reviews. This is up from the previous requirement of having to have only one review.

Google has updated the product rich results support page to add details around how these rich results can be used for product variants where each product variant has a distinct URL.

Google’s John Mueller was asked if swapping out your logo on your site for the site’s birthday with a special birthday logo can hurt your SEO. John said on Twitter “I’ve never seen issues around that.” In fact, Google does it all the time on its home page and heck, I swap out the theme on this site for special days as well.

Looks like DuckDuckGo, the privacy focused search engine, is on the decline. In January 2021 it broke the 100 million searches per day mark but since April 2022 of this year, it has dipped below that mark each month.
