I began doing SEO in ’98, the year I founded San Francisco based Community Musician (with the grace and support of Craig Newmark of Craigslist.org).
In 2004, I co-founded San Francisco marketing agency Red Bricks Media (“RBM”). While still working in my living room, RBM entered a performance marketing competition Adobe Systems held in order to select an agency for all of its digital marketing (~$45 million / yr ad spend). RBM won that contest, beating the largest multinational agencies. I grew RBM to 72 employees with offices in SF, NYC, and Hong Kong. I led the strategy for Adobe, Hearst Publishing, SanDisk, Sony Pictures, and many other big brands.
I began teaching marketing at AcademyX in 2006, where I started each course by jokingly telling students, “a great marketer is deep enough to have profound insight into human nature, but shallow enough to use it for financial gain”.
I truly love marketing.
Currently I am overseeing marketing and PR for Immunicom (I am also a Series A investor), among other clients.
My other great love is songwriting (and writing poetry). When I was 13, I began studying guitar with a session player in NY who backed great jazz musicians such as Ella Fitzgerald. I was a music minor in college, and studied classical composition privately for four years with Jerry Gerber in San Francisco.
I’ve been nearing completion of an album – you can listen to what we’ve finished so far and read lyrics here. We’re about to record vocals (with special guests).
The SEO nerd in me feels compelled to share this with you:
Stay tuned.
