In 2017, Google did a ton of testing of deploying rounded corners for its mobile search results design. Well, the test is back. Saad AK shared a couple of screen shots on Twitter of Google testing rounded borders around the search results in the mobile search results.

A few days ago, Google made a change in the Google Search Console page experience report to direct developers to debug their AMP pages for page experience issues outside of Search Console. Google is linking them to the AMP Page Experience Guide.

Google’s John Mueller said when it comes to PDFs on your site, you don’t have to worry about the core web vitals scores or if they are mobile friendly. John said on Twitter “Yeah, we essentially ignore PDFs when it comes to Core Web Vitals & mobile-friendliness. Sometimes they show up in the reports, but there’s no need to do anything specific with them.”

We have seen the “more specific searches” feature now in two different formats, both in a normal list view and in an expandable format. Matt Burgess spotted it as a large set of buttons in a carousel format, that is multi-lined.

Google Ads announced that it is now easier to create sub-manager accounts. You can now create these sub-manager accounts from within your existing manager accounts, in addition to where you created them before.

Microsoft announced new video extensions available in Microsoft Advertising as a new ad extension feature that can be displayed in the Bing Search result ads. Microsoft said Video Extensions available now for all advertisers globally.

Google has added a new property to the job posting schema named directApply. directApply is a method to enable someone from Google Search to save steps when applying for your job listing after finding it on Google Search.

Google is really pushing its shopping features these days and expect Google to keep pushing. They integrated with Shopify and other platforms and yesterday announced integration with GoDaddy online store customers.

The question is, can SEOs give their clients timelines for when they can expect improvements on their SEO or ranking issues in Google Search? The answer is, it depends on the issue and how specific the timeline is.

Did you know that Microsoft Bing lets you share some of the direct answers (or as Google calls it, featured snippets) on social or other means? Well, it is not for most direct answers but for maybe Microsoft based answers it does. It also has this neat animation in the search results as well.

In addition to the new direct apply property for job postings, Google also announced that new the company is adding new editorial content policy for job postings on Google Search. These new policies go into effect on October 1, 2021 and aim to improve the quality of search results and develop new functionality within the product, Google said.

On 1st July 2021 we learned of the passing of Dan Bell, following a serious accident some weeks prior. Many of us in the SEO and wider digital marketing industry were lucky to know Dan and to count him as a friend. Whilst Dan and I were introduced due to our common career path, we were instantly and only friends.
