Did you know that the categories or buttons Google shows at the top of some knowledge panels are query dependent? Meaning that the categories and the order Google places the buttons can dynamically change based on the query the searcher entered into Google Search.

Google has said that the Google Search Console rich results report for product structured data now provides more granular levels of errors. Google said starting September 29th, “Search Console now provides more granularity in error reporting for Product structured data items.”

Microsoft Bing seems to be testing this mysterious red dot in the search bar navigation, near the shopping tab. I was able to replicate this and honestly, I do not know what this does, but here is a screen shot.

Google’s John Mueller said on Twitter that directory submissions, article submissions and bookmarking links are generally against Google’s webmaster guidelines. He said they are generally seen by Google as artificial links and thus you should likely avoid a link building strategy using those.

Google had a slew of Google Search related announcements at the Google Search On 2021 event. The announcements ranged from improvements and more uses for MUM, to the about this result expanding, to shoppable search experiences, in-store inventory, Google Lens updates and a bunch of features and redesigns to the Google Search experience.

Remco Tensen asked on Twitter which dials would you want to turn in the Google search ranking algorithm. He offered four choices in his Twitter poll including links, usability, factuality, and freshness.

Did you ever wonder if putting your XML sitemap URL at the bottom of your robots.txt will impact your Google Search indexing? The answer is no. Google does not care about the location of your Sitemap URL in your robots.txt file.

John Shehata, the global VP at Conde Nast, asked a super interesting question about how Google Search adapts to how searcher intents change over time. In short, it seems Google is smart enough to understand queries different over time as searcher intent changes over time.

Aleyda Solis posted a Twitter poll asking if SEOs have experienced an “unexpected” Google search rankings drop and why. The poll had less than 300 responses but the results do not surprise me too much. In short, most SEOs have experience such a drop and most say it was due to a Google search algorithm update.

Today at 1pm ET/10am PT you can watch Google’s big annual Search On event at searchon.withgoogle.com. I am offline today, so I will catch up on all the news from this event over the next day or so but normally Google will announce big new organic search changes at this event.

Google announced yesterday that Google Ads is moving away from last-click. Instead the data-driven attribution (DDA) will soon be the default attribution model for all new Google Ads conversion actions, Google said. In addition, Google is removing the data requirements & adding support for all conversion action types to be able to use DDA.
