Google’s John Mueller said again that you cannot fix your overall website quality by making some technical changes. John said on Twitter “Website quality is not something you can fix with technical changes.”

Google Ads has a boatload of policies, like you’d imagine, and some of those policies are around content exclusions like sensitive content, mature content and so on. These labels that are set in Google Ads do not influence the organic Google Search results.

Google’s John Mueller had to say that links that have UTM parameters, or tracking parameter, added on to the end of the URL, does not make them unnatural links. I often wonder where these myths come from, but he had to explain that those links aren’t by default considered unnatural links.

In a Financial Times article from a few weeks ago, that mostly covered Google’s MUM, there was a bit about Microsoft Bing in there. It had a super interesting stat that reads “the ability to extract answers from text has already enabled Bing to offer direct answers to 20 per cent of the queries it gets, according to Ribas.”

Google’s John Mueller said in Friday’s video that he reviewed a bunch of recipe related queries and notices a nice number of sites using rich results markup incorrectly. He said it might lead Google to automating the removal of those rich results for those sites.

Back in June Google said you will be able to add Google Posts directly from the Google search results page. I suspect that went live shortly after the announcement on mobile and maybe desktop, but maybe it didn’t and I missed it. It may or may not be new but I wanted to cover that you can now add Google Posts from Google Search.

The other day, I posted on Twitter a video from the inaugural Google News Initiative Community News Summit of Danny Sullivan doing a Q&A sessions from publishers. There are a number of videos from this summit but I suspect Danny’s Q&A was the most interesting.

With news that the Google page experience update is pretty much done rolling out, with the one piece left being the Google News apps, Google News sent out emails to publishers with this great subject line “simplifying content management in Google News.”

Google’s John Mueller was once again asked about how much content should you put on your category pages, be it e-commerce categories pages or other category pages. In short, John said a “little bit of content I think is always useful” but don’t overdo it with too much content.

Google’s John Mueller said technically you can use the knowledge graph ID URL for the URL in your SameAs property but it is not recommended. It is not recommended because that ID might change, so you probably want to use URLs that are less likely to change than the knowledge graph ID.

Microsoft announced the company has opened up the Bing Content Submission API to all for site owners, publishers, and webmasters…
